A Conference That Changes What’s Possible

 

From the Block to the Bloc is a full-day youth civic engagement summit designed with a deliberate professional conference format. For many students, this will be their first time experiencing the structure, vocabulary, and energy of a real conference — the registration table, the printed agenda, the branded name badge, the keynote, the breakout sessions. That exposure is its own form of education. It expands what students understand to be a space they belong in.

 

The summit does two things most youth programs never attempt simultaneously: it inspires students about what’s professionally possible, and then genuinely listens to what they want for their lives and their community — putting them in direct conversation with people who have the power to help make it happen.

 

The morning is about possibility. The afternoon is about action. Students leave not just inspired but heard — with a formal Collective Goals and Actions (COA) document that captures their vision for Baltimore and the commitments made by community leaders in response. This is the brand’s most direct expression of its origin. The Marbled Bloc was named after Baltimore’s marbled stoops — the gathering places where community was built on the block. This summit is that stoop, built inside the Baltimore Teachers Union, for the next generation of the city’s leaders.
